Why I’m Starting This Blog and Podcast: Finding Clarity in Chaos
Life is complicated. We all face questions that don’t have easy answers—questions about who we are, what we stand for, and how we find meaning in the messiness of it all. For a long time, I’ve wrestled with these questions quietly, but now, I feel it’s time to bring them to light. That’s why I’m launching this blog and my podcast, Before I Self-Destruct.
This journey isn’t about pretending I have everything figured out. It’s about exploring, reflecting, and being honest about what I’ve learned—and what I’m still learning.
Why Now?
For 20 years, I served in the U.S. Army, living a life of structure, discipline, and purpose. But as I transition into a new chapter of my life, I’ve found myself grappling with deeper questions about identity, legacy, and meaning. Who am I outside of my uniform? What lessons can I pass on to my children, and how do I define success for myself?
On top of that, I’ve always had a creative side—a desire to share stories, connect with others, and dig into the complexities of the human experience. This blog and podcast give me the space to do just that.
What’s Before I Self-Destruct About?
The title might sound intense, but it’s a reflection of something I think we all face: moments when life feels like it’s breaking us down, only for us to realize those moments are opportunities to rebuild stronger.
The podcast is a solo-hosted show where I’ll tackle the big questions—about life, relationships, identity, and growth. Questions like:
• Why do we destroy to rebuild?
• Should friendships end over political or religious differences?
• What’s the cost of always being resilient?
• How do we define success?
I’ll draw from my experiences as a soldier, a father, and someone who has navigated his fair share of challenges. My goal isn’t to give answers but to spark conversations, both with you and within myself.
Why a Blog Too?
The blog is a space to dig even deeper, to reflect on the journey of creating Before I Self-Destruct, and to document my own growth. It’s a semi-journal where I can share the behind-the-scenes of building this creative project, as well as thoughts and lessons that don’t make it into the podcast.
It’s also a place to connect with you—my readers and listeners. Your feedback, stories, and perspectives are what will make this endeavor meaningful.
What I Hope You’ll Take Away
I’m not an expert. I don’t have a PhD in philosophy or psychology. What I do have is 41 years of life experience, two decades of military service, and a willingness to be vulnerable and honest.
If you’re someone who’s also searching for clarity in the chaos, who values honest reflection over perfect answers, I hope you’ll join me on this journey. Whether through the blog or the podcast, my aim is to create a space where we can question, reflect, and grow together.
The Road Ahead
Starting Before I Self-Destruct isn’t just a creative project—it’s a personal mission. It’s my way of rebuilding, reconnecting, and sharing the lessons I’ve learned along the way.
So here’s to the journey ahead: the questions, the reflections, and the stories we’ll share. Let’s embrace the mess, dig deep, and see what we uncover together.
